[ back ] URGENT ACTION : DEMOLITIONS IN OLD LHASA A major demolition is just beginning in one of the remaining old Tibetan quarters of Lhasa. While this demolition does not include monasteries or temples, it does include physical symbols of the remaining Tibetan cultural heritage. As such, these buildings are of universal value and need to be protected. YOU CAN HELP! We don't have much time to take action. We need to create an international outcry to our political leaders and the Chinese government in order to stop these demolitions in their tracks. Each country has it's own national committee. Pressure from other ICOMOS executives and members should help sway the Chinese branch into action.
